Honestly, alternative 1 speaks to my own aversion to use my phone for any serious work.

Amen. My wife often types out entire long emails using her smartphone and it pains me just to observe the process.

I really think that smartphones are great for emergency situations (like when you're stuck at the vet and trying to kill a surprising extra hour of time), but for actual comprehension or deeper thoughts? It's just hard for me to imagine that being possible.

Agreed. I'm responding using my phone now and even these short replies end up with errors I have to correct (3 thus far) and make me too exhausted after mere seconds.

You're a braver man than me. I won't even do comments from a mobile device. I think part of it is also that I kind of think with my hands as I'm writing. Hopefully that makes sense and sounds less crazy to someone else who also writes a lot.
